Bentley Priory, near Stanmore, is the former RAF headquarters where Lord Dowding orchestrated the Battle of Britain in 1940. It is a Grade II* listed building. After two devastating fires and subsequent rebuilding, the RAF left the site in 2008.Â
Most of the house and the surrounding site became luxury housing, but the most significant rooms were donated to the Bentley Priory Battle of Britain Trust, which GQA converted into the battle of Britain museum, which was opened by the King (then the Prince of Wales). The proposals have restored the building internally and externally as well as the historic grounds.
